Babies on YouTube

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Some babies and children have become famous as a result of their parents posting home movies on YouTube. This week the news media focused on a video called “David after Dentist”, which shows a young boy feeling the after effects of gas from a visit to the dentist. This video has gone ‘viral’, receiving a total of 17 million views. A sure sign of a video’s popularity is the spawning of parodies on YouTube, including in this case “Chad Vader after Dentist”. You can view the video on YouTube here.

In 2007, it was “Charlie bit my finger” which became hugely popular. To date, this is still one of the most popular videos on YouTube, with a total of 89 million views. This simple video sums up the special relationship between two young brothers. Check it here.

By the time your baby is 65, chances are he or she will have walked more than 100,000 miles (according to APMA, the American Podiatric Medical Association). Help your baby start off on the right foot by checking the feet regularly. The APMA makes these recommendations:

• Examine your baby’s feet carefully and discuss any irregularities with your pediatrician.

• Keep your baby’s feet unwrapped and free to move. Give your baby time on his back and let him kick his feet.

• Move your baby frequently and don’t keep her in the same position for too long. This will decrease the strain on the legs and feet.

• Keep your baby’s toenails clipped to avoid ingrown nails.

• Shoes are not necessary indoors for toddlers learning to walk. Walking barefoot or in socks will help the muscles in your child’s feet develop.

Dads these days are not afraid to take care of baby.  For many years, a dad taking his baby out on an outing was stuck with baby gear that was definitely designed with mom in mind.  Now there is dad baby gear designed just for dad.  Diaper bags are available that look like messenger bags and backpacks.  There is even a “diaper vest” made by DadGear.  What looks like a normal thermal fleece vest actually can store wipes, spare diapers, bottles and pacifiers in its large zippered pockets.  Even a changing pad is concealed in a pocket on the back of the vest.  This is gear for the dude in every dad.
