Many parents don’t realized that the nursery can be one of the most toxic rooms in the house. Eager to provide their baby with a fresh, clean environment, most parents don’t realize that the new paint and furniture may be giving off toxic fumes. People Magazine recently published some tips from Constance Marie, co-star of the George Lopez show and recent new mother.

  • Paint – Use paint that’s free of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). VOCs give off toxic fumes that can remain in a newly painted from for up to a year.

  • Crib – Most new cribs are made from particle board, covered with varnish and if imported from overseas, treated with pesticides. Look for a varnish-free crib made from solid wood. Constance Marie recommends the Green Cradle for all types of organic products, including natural rubber crib mattresses.

  • Air Purifier – This will help eliminate many of the chemicals in indoor air. According to the EPA, the air indoors can be up to 100 times more polluted than outdoors.

  • Babies spend a lot of time in their nurseries. If you interested keeping your baby free of toxins, the nursery is a great place to begin. Read more on the People Magazine website.
