Help your baby get start off on the right foot by following these tips for healthy feet.

By the time your baby is 65, chances are he or she will have walked more than 100,000 miles (according to APMA, the American Podiatric Medical Association). Help your baby start off on the right foot by checking the feet regularly. The APMA makes these recommendations:

• Examine your baby’s feet carefully and discuss any irregularities with your pediatrician.

• Keep your baby’s feet unwrapped and free to move. Give your baby time on his back and let him kick his feet.

• Move your baby frequently and don’t keep her in the same position for too long. This will decrease the strain on the legs and feet.

• Keep your baby’s toenails clipped to avoid ingrown nails.

• Shoes are not necessary indoors for toddlers learning to walk. Walking barefoot or in socks will help the muscles in your child’s feet develop.
